Seventh Grade Art
Projecting Myself: A Self Portrait
For our first art project we discussed Self Portraits. Students brainstormed images that represented their identity and used a projector to project their identity onto themselves. Students looked at work by Andrea Pantleo and Jorge Pinto who use projections on models to create a narrative. Students worked in teams to project image, find a good composition in terms of placement of image on their body, and the teacher took their picture when they were ready.

Learning Objectives:
Emphasis Drawings
Students practiced the many Elements and Principles of Art through their Emphasis Drawings. Students chose a black and white image of their choice and removed three shapes of various sizes that they wanted to emphasize on from the image. Students had to practice use of balance to achieve a sound composition. Students then practiced value by drawing what they removed originally. Students practiced using contrast to make their drawing look as realistic as possible.

Learning Objectives:
Poetic Monotype Printmaking
Students studied and experimented with Monotype printmaking in the second quarter. Students first experimented with different texture making techniques in a black and white print and then experimented with color mixing and texture within their second print. Students studied the artwork by Arthur Secunda for inspiration on texture and design. Last, students incorporated a creative poem using cut paper and magneticpoetry.com for inspiration.

Learning Objectives:
Comic Book Making
Within quarter three and four students studied within the Comic Design unit. Students began by studying a variety of comic books from around the work and looking at character design, story development, layout design, and more. Students began by developing their main character and story development. Once students had accomplished this they could create a layout design for their narrative. Students made sure to draft out all ideas before beginning the final product. Once students finished drafting their comic design, they inked in using Sharpie marker.
