Clay Pinch Pots
The focus of this unit was for students to experience working with clay and create a sculpture.
At the start of this unit I introduce the concept of sculpture and 2 dimensional art versus 3 dimensional art. I then explained that students were to create pinch pots by pinching clay. We practiced pinching like crabs and then students were given a ball of clay. Students then created pinch pots through a guided demonstration and then added clay to their pinch pots to create animals out of their pinch pots. Students then painted their sculptures using tempera paint.
In this unit, the students interacted with a variety of materials for the first time. It was really great to see how each student interacted with the materials and see the sense of discovery on their face as they explore
