1st Grade
My curriculum for 1st grade is based on the Art Elements and basic components of art. To teach the elements and components of art I use a lot of children's literature. My goal is to teach the children the Art Elements and expose them to a variety of art processes such as painting, oil crayons, sculpture, drawing, and collage. Using these materials will not only improve their fine motor skills but also help them to learn problem solving skills and basic art production skills.
The Art Elements are: Line, Shape, Color, Space, Texture, Form, Value.
So far this year we have learned about different types of line, geometric and organic shapes, and texture. The second half of the school year will be focused on color, form, space, and value. Students will also be learning about ancient art, how color depicts mood, and collaborative artwork.
